1 Samuel 15:21-23 (NKJV)
21 But the people took of the plunder, sheep and oxen, the best of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice to the Lord your God in Gilgal.”
22 So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.
23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.”
Rebellion is defined as; the open resistance to authority, disobedience, mutiny, insurrection, insubordination, anarchy, revolt, etc. These are not very good terms are they? Would you want to fellowship with someone with these traits? No, you wouldn’t, well God looks at it the same way. In Galatians 5:20,it lists witchcraft as a work of the flesh, in other terms, it’s sin.
Witchcraft:(As defined in Bible History Online) The word “witch” seems to denote etymologically “one that knows. Since the 13th century the word “witch” has come more and more to denote a woman who has formed a compact with the Devil or with evil spirits, by whose aid she is able to cause all sorts of injury to living beings and to things. The term “witchcraft” means in modern English the arts and practices of such women. But there are also male witches or wizards. One trait of witchcraft is to control another person to act against their will.
God has given us a free will, we can choose to obey His Word or rebel and disregard them. He desires for us to submit willingly to His commandments and enjoy a long healthy life. He doesn’t put pressure on us to follow His Word, although it would be wise to do so. He never intended for man to dominate man. That’s why the Lord hates witchcraft. God and His Word are the Highest authority. There is also a system of authority here on earth that we must submit to such as a police officer over a citizen, a teacher over a student or a supervisor over an employee.
Deuteronomy 30:19 (NKJV)
19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.
I believe that disobedience to God commandments can eliminate trips to the emergency room and to the funeral home. As we obey God’s Word, we come under God’s perfect will and protection in Christ Jesus. 1John 5:18 says:
1 John 5:18 (KJV)
18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
When we rebel against the Lord it’s like a child that’s walking across an intersection holding his parents hand. Then suddenly the child snatches his hand out of his parent’s hand, breaks away and runs into oncoming traffic. That child had been previously instructed to stay close and hold dad or mom’s hand, but he decided to disobey and now has placed himself in danger. Now the results may not be so immediate as in this example but continually sinning you can become callous because up to this time nothing bad has happened. God is merciful, He alerts and warns us but we can ignore or become desensitized and don’t hear Him speaking.
If God instructs us not to indulge in sexual sins, perversion, stealing, lying, strife, anger, backbiting, etc. He’s saying for us to stay away because these things because they have death attached to them. He loves us and wants to protect us. The unsaved have no restraint, because the world teaches or influences people to do just the opposite of what God tells us.
There are many preachers today that don’t preach against sin, but it’s also part of the Gospel. Because the Word warns us to stay away from evil in order to live under the blessings according to Deuteronomy 28:1-15. I know anyone in their right mind desires to live a life of blessing. “We are in the last days”, “the beginning of sorrows” that the Lord spoke of in Matthew 24. The wickedness and evil that permeates today is because Satan knows his time is short according to Revelations 12:12. As believers we must stay in the protection and the grace of God and remain obedient to His Word. Jesus told us in John 10:10:
John 10:10 (KJV)
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
If you’ve sinned, repent! Ask God for forgiveness and He’ll bring you back into fellowship with Him.
1 John 1:9 (NKJV)
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
One man of God said; “If you want the blessed, abundant life, just read the red and do what He(Jesus) said!” The devil is not stealing anything of mine, how about you? Be Blessed, Shalom!-BTTIZ
